Reese Witherspoon started seriously pursuing acting when she was enrolled in Stanford University. Early successes in the field of critical success included roles in films such as Pleasantville and Election however it was her performance as Elle Woods in the box office smash Legally Blonde that marked a significant turning point in her career. Witherspoon was awarded her first Academy Award in 2005 for her role in Walk the Line.
